Major Internet Failure Affects Numerous Online Platforms and Mobile Apps

A large-scale web failure has impacted dozens online platforms and apps worldwide, as users experiencing issues accessing the internet due to difficulties at Amazon’s online infrastructure system.

The impacted platforms include Snapchat, the gaming platform Roblox, Signal, and Duolingo, as well as several Amazon-owned platforms such as its key e-commerce website and the Ring device manufacturer.

Across the United Kingdom, the financial institution Lloyds was affected along with its subsidiaries the bank Halifax and the Scottish bank, while there were also reports of problems reaching the HMRC site on Monday morning. Additionally in Britain, multiple Ring device owners used online platforms to report their home gadgets were failing.

Just within Britain, accounts of disruptions on particular platforms ran into the thousands for every service.

Amazon reported that the outage began in the eastern region of the America at the cloud division, a division that provides vital online framework for many companies, who rent out resources on AWS infrastructure. AWS is the most extensive web hosting platform.

Just after late night (PDT) in the United States (8am BST), Amazon confirmed “higher error rates and delays” for Amazon's platforms in a region on the eastern US of the US. The widespread consequence was seen to affect services worldwide, and the outage tracking website showing problems with the same sites in different parts of the world.

The outage tracker Thousand Eyes, a tool that tracks web disruptions, also reported a increase in problems on Monday morning, with many of them located in the state of Virginia, the region of the eastern US data center where the company stated the issues started.
