A teenage boy was found dead just days following being wrongly accused of stealing the ashes of a dead baby during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Tragic Finding

The young boy's parents discovered his remains in his room at his Flintshire residence on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Begin

The inquest heard how his parent received a communication on November 8th, 2021 via social media, from a woman asking if Kai was her child. The communication added: "Tell him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a statement read to the court, the mother said the woman had been in the news, claiming her infant's remains had been stolen in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Police Inquiry

An official inquiry from police later determined the supposed burglary complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that said items was never taken in the beginning".

Media reports about the alleged stolen ashes attracted social media comments, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his parent said individuals "knew it was him".

The "social media content were really upsetting", she said.

Emotional Wellbeing Effect

She explained that her son had been diagnosed with mild ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' views really mattered to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she commented, "particularly when this was untrue".

The teenager was detained at his residence, but no evidence was discovered. He was taken to a police station and later released under investigation.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not contacted the family by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Worry

His mother said her son "withdrew into himself" after the detention and "repeatedly inquired me whether I had heard anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could seem like much longer".

When she spoke to him about the supposed incident, she said her son informed her he had entered the house because the woman who resided there had said he could use the bathroom whenever he wanted, but denied taking anything.

Online Bullying

In a combined testimony between her and her spouse, the mother said her child was being bullied digitally after the accusations.

The proceedings learned that a 19-year-old urged the teenager to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the night before he passed away, explaining how she had listened to him "laughing and joking".

She portrayed him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "obviously hiding his worries", she said, noting that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

School Reaction

The hearing heard from educational personnel at the local secondary school.

On 8 November, she "overheard some students discussing that the student had been arrested and that was the first I learned".

"He told me... he'd done nothing wrong," she continued.

After the conversation, the staff member said she rang Kai's family telephone and left a voicemail saying she had communicated to Kai about the allegations.

The proceedings heard his parents said they did not got that communication.

Official Conclusion

Senior coroner told the hearing he would await documents regarding what enhancements had been made to handling individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Delivering a narrative conclusion, he stated: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated allegations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old child.

"Probably falsehoods were afterwards embellished and amplified through the medium of online networks.

"During November 11th, he was interviewed by the authorities and following his interview he was freed whilst investigations proceeded."

The official concluded: "Exists no evidence that the acts or omissions of any agency caused or added to his passing and although it was the result of a personal act it is impossible to discern his intent."
